Just purchased a Canon Powershot SX50 HS, mainly for the enhanced zoom over my DSLR and video capability. The budget isn't there for a comparable DSLR lens. I already use a Canon XS with two canon lenses ranging from 55-250mm.

Does anyone have successful portfolios using the SX50 or a similar camera? Are there any concerns using an SX50-type camera as opposed to a DSLR?

I have only an SX30 IS and it is the same as SX50 (almost in every way).
I have a fairly good statistics compared to most newbies. I joined very recently (started serious uploading from October or November last year) and have already made it past first payout.

Unless you do extensive post processing, you'd get more than 70% of your photos rejected. With proper post processing, you can easily get 100% acceptance (as far as technical quality is concerned).
So my advice would be - DO NOT upload photos straight from the camera. Or you'd get a clear 90% rejection on all photos shot at anything less than 3x zoom. For full telephoto shots, chances of getting accepted are higher. The camera would give you the sharpest shots at full zoom and f/5.6
Also, try never to use an ISO of more than 200. ISO400 is okay...but almost certainly a rejection if you don't drastically resize it to 3.1 MP.

That's my experience...I have only SX30. No other camera. This month's AR was around 70%. Satisfactory figures on my port, at least for me,

By the way, the most common rejections I faced are:
- distorted pixels or noise
- poor lighting or contrast due to camera limitations
- chromatic aberration due to low lens quality
- Incorrect white balance (the WB isn't as good as it is in DSLR. You'll need to set it manually for all indoor shots and flash shots)
- too low depth of field (Due to long focal lengths, sometimes the main subject gets blurred at the wrong places)

You're welcome. :)
I agree, you'd need a $10,000 lens kit to equal the PowerShot series. It does give you bad photos but it still DOES give you photos! A PowerShot is better than 55mm lens on a Canon 1D Mark III. ;)

I'll keep using my Rebel XS unless I need the extra zoom, or want to shoot videos.

That's better. The PowerShot has really bad optics at wide angle.
